Cobbers redesign basketball court in Memorial Auditorium
MOORHEAD—Concordia's Memorial Auditorium recently received a refresh.
The parquet basketball court was sanded down and repainted with a new design, including a larger Cobbers' "C" at center court.
"It's more accurate colors and a more accurate maroon," saids Concordia athletic director Rachel Bergeson. "I think the exciting part of the design is the large 'C' in the center."
Bergeson said the court redesign cost around $25,000 and was done in conjunction with the Communications and Marketing department at Concordia.
"What we are doing now in athletics is we are trying to work really hard with marketing and communications," Bergeson said. "We are working on building a consistent brand across campus."
The new court design, which was finished earlier this week, had a more pronounced two-tone parquet with "Concordia College" painted along both end lines.
"I really like the parquet look and the two-tone stain," Bergeson said. "I think it keeps some of that tradition. ... It's got that traditional but kind of bringing us into that new era."
Memorial Auditorium was built in 1952. The facility is home for Concordia's basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs.
The first scheduled competition on the new court is slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, when the Cobbers host Valley City State in volleyball.
"I think it's an exciting piece for the coaches because we all have offices around that floor," Bergeson said. "We were ready for a fresh look."
