Letter: For examples of 'incivility,' look no further than Nixon, Reagan and Gingrich
In response to "Lack of civility did not begin with Trump" published July 3:
Bette Grande need look no further than members and supporters of her own party to find those culpable for fostering incivility.
She can start, perhaps, by examining Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy," which relied on racial bias and animosities for winning elections.
Or, perhaps Grande could study Ronald Reagan's first speech after winning the Republican nomination for president—that is, the speech about "states' rights" he gave in Philadelphia, Miss., where three civil rights workers were murdered in the 1960s.
Or, perhaps she could re-examine the congressional career of Newt Gingrich. She might do all of this research while Rush Limbaugh's radio noise is playing in the background.
