Lester Orn

Lester M. Orn, 95, formerly of Stirum, ND, passed away July 10, 2018, at Bethany on 42nd, Fargo with his family at his side.

Lester was born on December 7, 1922 to Frank and Angela (Mollitor) Orn in Stirum, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended school. On September 3, 1947, he married Esther Totenhagen. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last September. They lived and farmed near Stirum until October of 2016, when they moved to Fargo.

Lester was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was also a member of the Cogswell Gun Club and he served on the Vivian Township Board for many years. He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking, gardening and all activities outside. Lester and Esther liked to travel and spending time at their home in Mesa, AZ during the winter months. Lester loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Esther; two daughters, Eileen (Steve) Vaudt, Weston, WI and Marilyn (Dave) Hodgson, Wyndmere, ND; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Jen) Vaudt, Amanda Vaudt, Andrew Vaudt, Tara (Troy) Schini, Erika (Matt) Williams, Daniel (Deirdre) Hodgson, and Thomas Hodgson; one brother, Floyd (Shelly) Orn, Escanaba, MI and nine great-grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Frances Heineman, brothers Kenny, Donald, Leonard, Russell, Howard and a grandson Adam Vaudt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes. His funeral will be Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oakes. Burial will be at Immanuel Cemetery near Stirum, ND.
