FARGO—They may not have shared clothes growing up, but sisters Missy Ambers and Nicole Weiss now share ownership in a women's clothing and accessories store in south Fargo.

Ambers, 43, and Weiss, 45, opened Classy Sisters Boutique on Saturday, May 19, at 5622 36th St. S., a frontage road along Interstate 29 in Fargo.

The business features women's clothing in sizes small to 3X, as well as handbags, jewelry, accessories and gift items.

Ambers said they chose to sell such a wide range of clothing in order to make the store welcoming for women of all ages and sizes.

"We wanted an atmosphere where anybody would come in and shop. If you're friends or sisters, and one is smaller and one larger, you can come in and shop together. ... We love to shop at boutiques and it's frustrating to go in one and nothing fits you," Ambers said.

When asked if they've always been interested in fashion, Ambers said she's "always been the shopper." The pair said they agree on most merchandise decisions. Even if they don't, Ambers said they usually tell each other to "go for it."

For example, Weiss is especially interested in soaps and essential oils. She sought out a line of essential oil necklaces and bracelets to carry in the store.

"I think everything that's in here, we love it. It's not because it was a certain price or we can make a certain margin, it's because we love these outfits," she said.

Weiss said they were very pleased with the response they got from their first customers Saturday.

"We did better than we thought we would with all the graduations, and the marathon and people going to the lake. We weren't expecting as much foot traffic as we got," Weiss said.

This isn't the first business venture for the Shelly, Minn., natives. The sisters used to do craft shows together before they had kids.

Today, Weiss works as an administrative assistant for Fargo Public Schools, and Ambers is a paraprofessional for Moorhead Public Schools. The sisters plan to expand store hours once school is out for the summer.

They also plan to host a grand opening from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24. The event will feature a sale and door prizes, as well as beverages and hors d'oeuvres.
